Up in the Clouds
Today, our seasoned travelers made their way from La Fortuna to the cloud forests of Monteverde. To get there, we twisted and turned our way around the north end of Lake Arenal, through beautiful pasturelands and through the town of Santa Elena. We made good time and enjoyed a leisurely lunch outside of town before making our way to the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Preserve. There, our guides showed us tarantulas, millipedes, and a long-horned beetle. Our guides kindly pointed out a known quetzal nest, but either nobody was home or the low hum of 95 adolescents kept the colorful birds at bay.
Because the hotels in this area tend to be smaller and family-run, our large group is spread across three hotels the next two nights. The aesthetic is “cabiny” and, after some time playing soccer and finding the hotel’s sheep, our students have already labeled this “the best hotel so far!” High praise.
Tomorrow, we have a long day exploring the Monteverde region. Our students continue to impress their chaperones with their thoughtfulness and care, so please share your praise the next time you check in.
Pura Vida!
